Mount Etna

Mount Etna (or Aetna, and known locally by the name Mongibello) is an active volcano on the east coast of Sicily, close to Messina and Catania.



Etna is the largest volcano in Europe, with a height of about 3,320 m and the circumference of the base along 140 km, making it the highest mountain in Italy south of the Alps.

Etna covers an area of ​​1190 km ². He is the greatest of volcanoes in Italy. The high three times larger than its nearest competitor, Vesuvius. Etna is one of the most active volcano in the world and almost always in a state of eruption. However, he is not regarded as too dangerous.
