Mauna Loa

Mauna Loa is one of five volcanoes that form the Island of Hawaii in the state of Hawaii, United States that is the Pacific Ocean. The word "Mauna Loa" is derived from the Hawaiian language means "long mountain". Including Mauna Loa shield volcano with an estimated volume of about 18,000 cubic miles (75,000 km ³), peak only 120 feet (37 m) lower than Mauna Kea. Eruption of Mauna Loa lava is very fluid and silica poor with explosive eruptions tend not and volcano has a shallow slope.

Mauna Loa has been predicted since the eruption 700,000 years ago and may have emerged above sea level since 400,000 years ago. The oldest rocks have been found less than 200,000 years old. Magma comes from the Hawaii hotspot Island of Hawaii formed about 10 million years. Tectonic movement of the Pacific Plate will carry the Mauna Loa away from the hotspot between 500,000 and 1 million years from now and this will cause the extinction of the mountain.

Mauna Loa last eruption occurred on March 24, 1984 to 15 April 1984, No recent eruption that caused a fatal loss, however, erupted in 1926 and 1950 destroyed several villages and the city of Hilo, mostly built on the results of the movement of the lava at the end of the century 19. Mauna Loa is included in the list of the Decade Volcanoes which encourages studies of the most dangerous volcanoes. Mauna Loa has been intensively monitored by the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory observations made since 1912 include atmospheric atmosphere at Mauna Loa Observatory, and the Sun at Mauna Loa Solar Observatory, both located close to the top. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park covers the summit and southeast from the slopes of the volcano, including a separate volcano, Kilauea.
